Travel documents
Luxembourg citizens can travel abroad for a stay not exceeding three months with the following documents:

valid national identity card or valid passport: ANDORRA, AUSTRIA, BELGIUM, BULGARIA, CROATIA, CYPRUS, CZECH REPUBLIC, DENMARK, ECUADOR, ESTONIA, FINLAND, FRANCE, GERMANY, GREECE, HUNGARY, ICELAND, IRELAND, ITALY, LATVIA, LIECHTENSTEIN, LITHUANIA, FYR OF MACEDONIA, MALTA, MONACO, MOROCCO*, NORWAY, POLAND, PORTUGAL, ROMANIA, SAN MARINO, SERBIA, SLOVAKIA, SLOVENIA, SPAIN, SWITZERLAND, SWEDEN, THE NETHERLANDS, TUNISIA*, TURKEY**, UNITED KINGDOM
* only when the journey is organised by a travel agent and on presentation of a voucher proving the reservation and payment of hotel fees.
** it is strongly recommended to travel with a passport (including the children) - valid passport without a visa: ALBANIA, ARGENTINA, BAHAMAS, BARBADOS, BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA, BOTSWANA, BRAZIL, BRUNEI (max. stay 14 days without a visa), BULGARIA, CANADA, CHILE, COSTA RICA, DOMINICA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, EL SALVADOR, ECUADOR, FIJI, THE GAMBIA, GEORGIA, GRENADA, GUATEMALA, GUYANA, HAITI, HONDURAS, HONG KONG, INDA, ISRAEL, JAMAICA, JAPAN, KIRGHIZSTAN (visa, max. 30 jours, can be asked at the airport without invitation), LESOTHO, MACAO, MACEDONIA, MALAYSIA, MALAWI, MAURITIUS, MEXICO, MONTENEGRO, MONTSERRAT, NAMIBIA, NEW CALEDONIA, NEW ZEALAND, NICARAGUA, PANAMA, PARAGUAY, PERU, PUERTO RICO, SENEGAL, SEYCHELLES, SINGAPORE, SOLOMON ISLANDS, SOUTH AFRICA, SOUTH KOREA, ST. KITTS & NEVIS, ST. LUCIA, ST. A valid passport bearing a valid entry visa is required for all other countries.
This visa can be obtained from the diplomatic or consular representations of these countries. Most of these representations are based in Brussels. The time taken to obtain a visa can vary greatly. For some countries it may be more than one month.

Luxembourg citizens can therefore not travel to Egypt with a simple identity card.
The Ministry would like to inform citizens that people wishing to go to Libya must have an Arabic translation of their passport’s details page.
Those concerned may ask the Passports, Visas and Legalizations Office to affix a stamp in their passports containing the information shown in the passport. They must then contact a sworn translator in order to obtain a translation of their personal details. Finally they must go back to the Passports, Visas and Legalizations Office to obtain a second stamp of confirmation.

N.B.: When you plan a journey, ask your travel agent or the embassy of the country you're visiting in advance about travel documents required and make sure your travel documents are valid. For the many countries outside Europe where a valid passport is required, it must be valid at least for six months after the date you plan to travel.
